Texas Music Awards show coming to Music City Texas

LINDEN, TX – The Academy of Texas Music has selected Music City Texas Theater in Linden as the location of the 4th Annual Texas Music Awards to be held on Saturday, March 25th, 2006.  The awards show, presented this year by Linden-based MyTexasMusic.com, a subsidiary of Payline Productions, presents awards to independent Texas performers in several categories.

Other cities were in the running to host the show including Austin, Houston, and Webster, Texas which hosted the 2005 event.  Jinelle and Lucky Boyd, co-founders of MyTexasMusic.com, presented Linden area businesses and organizations with the prospect of moving the show to Music City Texas in a meeting held there in November.

“The city of Linden pledged their support of the Texas Music Awards, so we decided to make this the home of the TMA’s this year,” said Lucky Boyd, “The Linden Economic Development Corporations opened their arms and their checkbook to this event.  It is that level of commitment that will make this the best show ever.”

Jinelle Boyd added that the show is still in negotiations with several celebrities as emcee of the event and that no agreements had been reached.  She stated, “As soon as we have a name on the dotted line, we’ll tell the world.”

With ceremonious ado, the Texas Music Awards show gives music fans an opportunity to see performances by many of the nominees.  Anticipation rises as the nominees are announced to a fanfare of their award-worthy music while graphics and photographs are displayed on large projection screens.  Presenters, usually past award recipients, proclaim, “…and the award goes to…” as fans hold their breath awaiting the results.  Thunderous applause erupts as the recipients are named in each category.

Awards are presented for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Duo or Group, Rising Star, Record, Song, Album, Singer/Songwriter, Musician, Musical Event, Producer, and Disc Jockey of the Year.

The Academy of Texas Music sanctions musical award events based on fairness of the process, eligibility requirements, and commitment to the advancement of Texas performers.  The TMAs are the only awards sanctioned by the Academy.

Nominations for the awards will begin on January 1st.  The public can make their suggestions for nominations online by visiting www.TexasMusicAwards.org.  On February 1st, the five nominees in each category will be announced and fans can return to the TMA website to vote for their favorite nominee.

The Academy of Texas Music voting board is comprised of past award recipients and accounts for about 90% of the total votes tabulated.  The remaining votes are received from the public voting process.

Among other musicians, Jarrod Birmingham is scheduled to perform.  Birmingham is from the Victoria area and is the 2005 Entertainer of the Year and also took home honors for Song of the Year and Album of the Year in 2005.  Previous Entertainer of the Year recipients include Shake Russell of Austin, and Smokey Wilson of Cuero.
