AWARDS Kaiser, Dust Devils take multiple nods as nominees are named for 2006 TMAs LINDEN, TX – Texas troubadour Jimmy Kaiser of Beaumont and The Dust Devils of Marble Falls each earned a total of five nominations for the 2006 Texas Music Awards to be held at Music City Texas Theater on March 25th. Kaiser garnered nominations for Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year, while his band, The Jimmy Kaiser Band, was nominated for Live Band of the Year, and guitarist Big John Mills was nominated for Musician of the Year for his appearance on Kaiser’s album, “I’M GONE.” The Dust Devils, formed around the duo of Kevin Higgins and Barbara Malteze of Marble Falls, gathered five nominations of their own including Album of the Year for “GATHERING DUST.” Malteze got the nod for Female Vocalist of the Year, the pair received the nomination for Vocal Duo or Group of the Year, and Higgins is up for Singer/Songwriter of the Year. “Walk On,” a song written by Higgins, is nominated for Song of the Year. The multiple nominations come as no surprise to award show producers Jinelle and Lucky Boyd. “All the acts have been working hard for some time now. We’ve watched as fan bases have grown beyond the borders of Texas,” says Jinelle Boyd, “We’re very proud of all the nominees and we hope they do well.” Lucky Boyd said of the upcoming show, “There are so many surprises that are going to unfold at this year’s show. With Michael Martin Murphey as host, and with the line up of talent that will perform, this will be the best show anywhere in Texas this year.” USA Network Nashville Star’s second season runner up, John Arthur Martinez, is nominated for Entertainer of the Year. Martinez will be on hand to present the Record of the Year award this year as he is the 2005 recipient for “Home Made of Stone,” a song he wrote with Anders Rasmussen and Steve Seskin and performed on the USA Network television program. Other nominees include Lloyd Maines, father of Dixie Chick Natalie Maines, who is up for Musician of the Year for his performance on Dan Crump’s “TRUTH IS” album. As expected, Boyd adds, “With this line up, and with Michael Martin Murphey hosting and performing, tickets for this show may be very hard to come by. Subscribers to the MyTexasMusic.com newsletter and those who are patrons of Music City Texas Theater will have the best shot at getting tickets.” Stephen and Sue Ann Meyer of The Lodge Recording Studio in Marble Falls will receive the Musical Event of the Year award, one of the MTM Founders’ awards for their production of “A TEXAS HILL COUNTRY CHRISTMAS.” The album featured many Texas performers who lent their talents to raise money for the Candlelight Ranch Foundation in Austin.
