Texas Music Awards nominations open to public
MARSHALL, TX – Nominations are now open to the public in the process to
decide who receives the coveted Texas Music Awards. Fans may enter
their nominations at www.TexasMusicAwards.org. The
annual event also serves as a fundraiser for the Academy, a 501(c)3 public

seeks sponsorships and donations to further its efforts toward music
education programs, scholarships, recognition projects, and benevolence

Jinelle Boyd, Executive Director of the Academy, said the process of deciding the award recipients has now begun. "It gets a little fast-paced from now until the show," she added. "With B.J. Thomas as our host, this promises to be the best event yet." Thomas,
best known for hits like "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" and "Hooked On
A Feeling," was announced earlier this year as the 2010 host. He will
bring his acclaimed band and perform a concert after the award
presentations. Nominees, presenters, and other celebrities arrive in limousines to one of the most exciting red-carpet entrances in Texas, complete with an announcer and plenty of camera flash. The show's producer, Lucky Boyd remarks, “It’s an exciting show, and there has been so much wonderful music released this year. The performances this year will be over-the-top.” With ceremonious ado, the Texas Music Awards show gives music fans an opportunity to see performances by many of the nominees. Anticipation rises as the nominees are announced to a fanfare of their award-worthy music while graphics and photographs are displayed on large projection screens. Presenters, usually past award recipients, proclaim, “…and the award goes to…” as fans hold their breath awaiting the results. Thunderous applause erupts as the recipients are named in each category. Awards are presented for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Female Vocalist, Duo or Group, Rising Star, Record, Song, Album, Singer/Songwriter, Musician, Producer, Broadcast Radio Station, Internet Radio Station, and Disc Jockey of the Year. The Academy of Texas Music, Inc. sanctions musical award events based on fairness of the process, eligibility requirements, and commitment to the advancement of Texas performers. The TMAs are the only awards currently sanctioned by the Academy. Nominations for the awards are open from January 1st to Jaunary 22nd. The public can make their suggestions for nominations online by visiting www.TexasMusicAwards.org. On February 1st, the five nominees in each category will be announced and fans can return to the TMA website to vote for their favorite nominee. The
Academy of Texas Music, Inc. Honoree Board is comprised of past award
recipients and accounts for about 70% of the total votes tabulated. The
remaining votes are received from the public voting process and from Academy
members. More information about the show, past recipients, photos, tickets, volunteering and sponsorship opportunities can be obtained at www.TexasMusicAwards.org. -30-
