BEFORE YOU VOTE: |
|
| First, if you have any trouble
with the balloting software, you can email your choices to
tmatexas@aol.com The Texas Music AwardsTM are modeled after a hybrid of the The Recording AcademyŽ (Grammys) and the "People's Choice Awards." While the awards are not decided in the exact manner as either of these, the criteria are similar and the processes also have similarities. To maintain the integrity of the awards and the voting process, it is important for you to know the details of the process. Your vote is an integral part of that process. Who is eligible? Only performers who are members of the Academy of Texas Music, Inc. are eligible for the Texas Music AwardsTM. Membership must be obtained prior to December 1, 2008. Members who are eligible for awards which require a qualifying album must have said album submitted or listed on the MyTexasMusic.com website prior to December 31, 2008, and said album must have been released no earlier than the dates set forth in the qualifying period information. Not every award requires a qualifying album. Who votes? There are three sections of the voting process, The Academy Board of Honorees, the Academy Members, and the general public. The Academy Board of Honorees consists of past recipients of the Texas Music AwardsTM and the Board Members of the Academy of Texas Music, Inc., Each individual member of the Academy Board of Honorees gets one vote. Their voting counts as 70% of the voting totals and is styled after the AP Writer's Poll with each nominee being ranked 1 through 5. Members of the Academy of Texas Music also vote and their vote counts 20% toward the total. You can join the Academy as a Voting Member here. The public's vote is a single count 'pick one' style of voting and essentially counts as 10 votes in the 2009 process. Each year, the public vote accounts for a number of votes that represents a figure nearest 10% of the total vote. Why should I vote? While it is true that 70% of the votes come from the peers of the nominees, it is important to remember that pleasing the fans is still a big part of this business. Performers must maintain a high level of quality in their music but must also garner support from their fans on a continual basis. The public vote, therefore, plays a major part in the outcome of the voting process. Where are Pat Green and Willie Nelson? Many very famous performers are not eligible for these awards. Although all qualifying Texas performers are invited to join The Academy of Texas Music, Inc., not all have done so at this time. You are involved in the seventh year of this voting process, and the sixth year of public involvement. You are a part of history in the making. Each year, more Texas performers come to understand the importance of the Academy of Texas Music, Inc. Next year, who knows! Why are there so many Country nominees? As mentioned before, all qualifying Texas performers are invited to join The Academy of Texas Music, Inc., not all have done so at this time. The Academy seeks to inform the public that Texas music crosses all genre lines. Currently about 75% of the membership performs music that can be called Country. Most of those perform less traditional Country music or Country-influenced music, and some perform in another genre as well. If you know an artist who performs Rock, Metal, Rap, Jazz, or any other genre, please encourage them to join. How accurate and secure is the voting? Your vote is collected by automated event handling software. The results are made available only to the administrators of the event. If you have any trouble voting, please email your choices to tmatexas@aol.com Each vote is collected and printed for safekeeping. At the end of the process, an independent accounting firm may be given the ballots for verification. The results are kept secret until the day of the awards show. |
