Previous award recipients earn the privilege of voting in future Texas Music Awards.

The members listed above will each have one set of votes for the 2008 Texas Music Awards.  Directors of the Academy will also have one set of votes.  The public vote counts as 8 votes.  Members of the Academy of Texas Music vote on their own ballot.  The results count as 17 votes.  Recipients of MyTexan Awards and Palmwood Awards who are not Performing Members of the Academy do not vote, nor do any award recipients who are not Performing Members of the Academy.

Each category will have five nominees as determined by the nomination process.  Each voting member will be given the list of nominees and will score them with points, 1 through 5. (5 being the first choice, 4 being the second choice, etc.)  The nominee receiving the most points will receive the award for that category.  My Texan and Palmwood Awards, as well as the Musical Event of the Year Award, are decided by the website founders and are not voted upon by the voting board or the voting membership.  Disc Jockey of the Year, Live Band of the Year, and Radio Stations of the Year are decided by public vote and are not voted upon by the voting board or the voting membership.  The voting process for public vote and voting members is different from that of the Voting Board.  On the public and voting member ballots, only one off the five nominees can be selected.  The nominee receiving the most votes will get 5 points toward a Board vote, and the process continues with 4 points, 3 points, etc.
